Automakers Report April Sales

Automakers on May 3 began reporting sales results for the month of April 2022.

Subaru

Subaru of America, Inc. reported 45,748 vehicle sales for April 2022, a 25.5% decrease compared with April 2021 (61,389), the best April in the company’s history.

The automaker also reported year-to-date sales of 178,094, a 19.7% decrease compared with the same period in 2021.

Subaru continues to face inventory challenges as the result of microchip and supply chain issues affecting automakers across the globe.

In April, Outback was a top performer and had its best April ever with 16,510 sales. Ascent sales for April 2022 increased 18.9%, while BRZ sales increased 152.5% compared to March 2021.

Hyundai

Hyundai Motor America reported April retail sales of 61,668 units, its second-best April retail sales month in its history. Electrified vehicle year-over-year retail sales increased 68% in April. Hyundai had no fleet sales in April 2022.

Elantra Hybrid, Santa Fe Hybrid, Palisade and Nexo set new April records, while it was the best month ever for Santa Cruz.

Kia

Kia America announced April sales of 59,063 units, marking the brand’s best-ever April sales total for EV models and pushing the total number of Kia vehicles sold in the U.S. past the 10 million mark. In addition, the Sportage SUV, now in its fifth generation as the brand’s longest running nameplate, achieved its best-ever April sales total with 11,380 units sold.

Overall electrified models recorded fourth consecutive same-month sales record, with EV sales reaching 14th consecutive same-month sales record and surpassing the April 2021 mark by more than 480%.

Kia America also registered its 10 millionth sale in the U.S. since deliveries to buyers began in 1993. Additional details on this historic achievement will follow later in May.

Mazda

Mazda North American Operations (MNAO) reported total April sales of 30,093 vehicles, a decrease of 3.3% compared to April 2021. Year-to-date sales totaled 112,361 vehicles; a decrease of 1.8% compared to the same time last year.

With 27 selling days in April, compared to 26 the year prior, the company posted a decrease of 6.9% on a Daily Selling Rate (DSR) basis.

CPO sales totaled 5,274 vehicles in April, a decrease of 23% compared to April 2021.
